Sandy Phonics

Montessori schools have been using sand to teach children recognition and writing of letters for decades, using the touch sense to reinforce what they are seeing and hearing, and it works phenomenally well.

Schools have always relied heavily on parents to help their children learn their letters, many schools now start this at nursery, and when they start school Jollyphonics is there with its songs, its actions and rhymes to help the little ones remember the sounds and the shapes of the letters.

But, great though it is, it still involves writing the letter repeatedly over and over again, and if your children were anything like mine, then that's a daily homework slog that's just not much fun.

So how can we make it fun?  We can make it fun with Sandyphonics.

It's so simple.

A resealable bag of coloured sand, a couple of small trays and then simply just writing the letter in the sand with your finger. The warm tactile nature of sand means that children love the sensation of it. If you go wrong simply give the tray a quick shake and all evidence of the "wrong" letter is elminated, and its nice and clear for them to start again.

Choose from your favourite colours, or best of all use rainbow sand, and then when you've finished simply tip the sand back in the bag and seal for next time (we've even chosen bags and trays that make this bit a doddle).

When learning your letters is this much fun - its play - so its perfect for children of all ages, imagine for example that you have a pre-schooler and a reception year child, the sand trays are something that the littlest one can sit and do with their big brother or sister, helping them associate play and learning, and starting good habits right from the beginning.

Part of our Sandyphonic range - Helping children learn their letters in a fun and engaging way.
These Sandyphonics letter cards are great for helping children trace the letter and feel the texture of the sand.
They help the children learn the letter when they colour the letter in, and can be used over and over again to trace over with their finger, to display colourfully around the house, and to have to copy when then draw the letters either in the sand trays or on paper.
